Wake-Up Call:
A 10-Step Program After Losing Your Job at 66
Yes, I'm sixty-six and should be retiring anyway, but I was knocked off my feet and was hit between the eyes when I lost my job. Of course, I felt like it was a sucker punch because I didn't see it coming. You may be in the same situation. You're thinking - we're thinking - What am I going to do now? How will I get over this? Am I ready to retire? I'm still too young. I don't want to use my Social Security benefits yet. Do I have enough accumulated work credits? I've been at my job for a while and rated well on performance evaluations.
Why is this happening?
I may not be able to explain why. So I'm telling my story but including you. Just hearing it may help you or someone you know. You're not alone.
We're in this together.
We need recovery and restoration. The definition of recovery program is a set of guiding principles outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems.
This was my ten-step program for getting over it. I had to get over my behavior from the shock. I'm still not sure if I went up the steps or down. Sometimes, it seemed like I was pulling up from the bottom of a pit. Other times, I was teetering on the girders of an unfinished skyscraper, trying again to find flat ground to hug. All I know is that I'm out now.
